About

The Meet the Artist: The Mother Earth Exhibit, designed by Melissa Lareau, is an attempt to draw attention to the artistry of the earth that we often forget to revel in.  An activity of SF Refresh, Meet the Artist will pair local artists with nature in hopes of inspiring people to slow down and notice the art that is all around them.

Artists featured at the April 16th SF Refresh event include:
  • Anne Hamersky (the Free Farm)- Meet Anne and hear her speak about her photographs at 6pm
  • Heather (the Growing Home Community Garden)

SF Refresh is hosting six daylong citywide events that enable San Franciscans to receive free whole body care in community garden settings in 2011.  Activities include: gardening classes, yoga, life coaching, meditation, trauma care, nutrition classes, massage, acupuncture, tea and coffee cuppings, movement classes, preventative health care information and more.  In addition to providing direct services to those who need them, SF Refresh connects individuals and families to self care resources available through the city's system of care, local businesses and non-profit organizations.

Several art projects (created by Melissa Lareau and Ilyse Magy) will appear at multiple sites throughout the day. These projects are designed to beautify the garden/farm spaces, inspire wellness and to help us work towards more loving, peaceful, green lives and communities. Projects at the April 16th event include: We Forgive You Letters; Affirmation Murals;Thoughts Matter; Imagination Station; Affirmation and Forgiveness Trees, Trellis and Fences; Meet the Artist: Mother Earth Exhibit; Mural Painting and Sidewalk Chalk Art.

SF Refresh is a part of the Growing Home's Seeding Resilience project, which increases access to mental health services and provides employment opportunities and skills. A two year innovation project with major support provided by the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA), the Seeding Resilience project is 75% focused on the Growing Home Community Garden (Octavia & Lily) and 25% on working with Urban Agricultural leaders in San Francisco to build a citywide network of support for mental health consumers.

Project Homeless Connect, in collaboration with the Department of Public Health, Department of Public Works, San Francisco Clean City Coalition, Farms to Grow, the Hayes Valley Neighborhood Association, and many others, are working to make the Growing Home Community Garden a functional, sustainable, and educational green space while increasing efficient use of the city’s resources for our homeless population.
